Patxi Mangado presents ‘Possible Architecture’ at APE Grupo

The renowned architect from Navarra, Patxi Mangado, acclaimed for both his design quality and the cultural support he has provided to architecture, was the crowning moment of the “Ágora Inspiring Talks” lecture series on 21st November. This event, organised by APE Grupo for the second consecutive year in collaboration with the CTAC (Territorial College of Architects of Castellón), featured Mangado’s insightful talk.

In this third lecture, titled “Possible Architecture”, Mangado concluded the 2024 lecture series, which included prominent professionals from Spain. Throughout the year, the series hosted top architects such as Carlos Lamela and Rafael de La-Hoz, and in 2023, Benedetta Tagliabue, Emilio Tuñón, and Iñaki Ábalos took part.

Jury of APE Grupo Architecture Awards

The keynote lecture coincided with the announcement of the jury’s decision for the second edition of the APE Grupo Architecture Awards, where Mangado served as the jury president. The jury also included interior designer Francesc Rifé and architect Susana Babiloni, president of the College of Architects of Castellón.

Francisco Mangado is both an architect and an economist. He has received the Spanish Architecture Prize twice, for the Spain Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008, and for the Conference Centre and Hotel in Palma de Mallorca. In 2021, the Government of Navarra awarded him the Francisco Javier Prize for his outstanding career in architecture, teaching, and for promoting interaction between architecture and other fields of knowledge.

In 2011, he was appointed “International Fellow” by the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), and in 2013, became an honorary member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects). Five years later, the Berlin Academy of Arts awarded him the Berlin Art Prize-Architecture in 2017. In 2022, he received the Gold Medal for Fine Arts from the Government of Spain, and in 2024, he was named a member of the Academy of Architecture of France.

Further achievements

He has been a guest professor at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and has held the position of Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at Yale University’s School of Architecture, as well as at L’École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Additionally, he has been a Baird-Gensler Visiting Professor at Cornell University’s School of Architecture. He also teaches at the Polytechnic University of Milan and the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris Val de Seine. Mangado is a distinguished professor of Projects at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra.

His works are featured in numerous national and international publications and exhibitions. In 2008, he founded the Architecture and Society Foundation, which received the Gold Medal from the CSCAE (Higher Council of Associations of Architects of Spain) in 2015.
