APE Grupo has launched the third edition of the APE Grupo Architecture Awards, an international prize recognising the talent of architects, interior designers and design professionals who make outstanding use of ceramic materials in their projects. Submissions are open until 14 November, with a €5,000 prize on offer. Full details are available on the official awards website.
This initiative reflects APE Grupo’s strong commitment to contemporary architecture, innovation, and the evolution of inhabited spaces. The awards are open to professionals and studios from around the world working in architecture, interior design, landscaping, refurbishment, or design. Eligible projects must be built and completed, and must incorporate ceramics from APE Grupo or one of its brands — APE, Carmen, XLINING or Ilbagno — as a significant design element.
The jury for this edition is chaired by Barcelona-based studio Peris+Toral Arquitectes, recent winners of the 2024 RIBA International Prize and the Spanish Architecture Award from the CSCAE. The panel is completed by Fernando Márquez Cecilia, architect and editor, founder of the prestigious magazine El Croquis, and Susana Babiloni, architect and current president of the Castellón Architects’ Association. This line-up ensures a rigorous, diverse, and contemporary perspective on the submitted works.
The APE Grupo Architecture Awards recognise both new-build projects and refurbishment or renovation works. Temporary installations and specific spatial interventions may also be submitted, provided they form part of a completed construction. This broad scope allows for a rich and varied exploration of ceramic as a technical, aesthetic and emotional material in today’s architectural landscape.
The previous editions have demonstrated a high level of participation and a clear international focus, with entries from countries such as the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Romania, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Belarus, France and Spain. In the second edition, the jury awarded first prize to Villa Amonita Lanzarote, a project by Czech studio OOoox, for its subtle integration of architecture, landscape and ceramic. A special mention was also given to Caruso Restaurant in Santo Domingo, designed by Arquimilio, for its delicate reinterpretation of space through ceramic materials.
This award is not an isolated initiative, but part of a broader strategy by APE Grupo to promote architectural culture and foster spaces that support wellbeing, sustainability and resilience. In the same spirit, the company organises the Ágora lecture series, which has featured leading figures such as Emilio Tuñón, Iñaki Ábalos, Patxi Mangado, Benedetta Tagliabue and Rafael de la Hoz.
APE Grupo has also just released the fifth edition of its trend report ‘The New Habitat 26–27’, which explores how our living spaces are evolving. The report has become a valuable reference for professionals worldwide and reinforces the role of ceramic as a key material in shaping contemporary living environments.
