APE Grupo has held from 1 to 5 December 2025 an intensive architecture workshop in the Alhambra, bringing together young architects from international universities to explore the role of ceramics in contemporary design. Titled “Alhambra: Shadow and Light”, the workshop took place at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Granada (ETSAG) and invited participants to design a shaded resting space at the entrance to the monument, one of the world’s most significant heritage ensembles.
The workshop was led by Carmen Moreno, Juan Domingo Santos and Héctor Fernández Elorza, who guided participants through an exercise of landscape integration and constructive precision, using APE Grupo ceramics as the foundation for creative experimentation. The programme was enriched by lectures and collective critiques delivered by renowned guest architects such as Atelier do Corvo, Pablo Millán, Jesús Aparicio and Lucas & Hernández-Gil.
This initiative reinforces APE Grupo’s ongoing commitment to architectural culture and innovation, strengthening ties between industry and academia. The workshop forms part of the company’s wider programme, which includes the APE Grupo Architecture Awards, the Ágora lecture series and the annual trend report The New Habitat.
The Alhambra—an international reference for the interplay of architecture, landscape and materiality—provided an exceptional setting for reinterpreting ceramics from a contemporary perspective. Through exercises centred on colour, texture and repetition, participants explored the expressive, structural and symbolic potential of the material.
With this initiative, APE Grupo continues to promote projects that connect past and present, encouraging future professionals to embrace a sensitive, innovative and context-aware approach to architectural practice.
